Challenging plastic pollution
Our development motivation is as simple as it is fearful. Conventional paint appears as the largest source of microplastic leakage into the ocean and waterways, outweighing all other sources. Yet the building industry has few alternatives to the polymer coatings on wood facades.
We’re developing a plastic-free wooden facade cladding that can compete with the durability of conventional polymer paint - without its pollution.

Waste-wood from danish flooring production
The wooden facade is made from high quality Douglas fir, discarded because of the materials knots and cracks. When making Knastø, we’re both making sure to use the resources already harvested and stopping it from polluting even more being burnt up.
When choosing Knastø you get a wooden cladding with higher quality than the pine wood typically used, regardless if you choose a untreated version that showcased the woods natural beauty or one of the plastic free painted ones.
