Et Skovhus – a holiday home built with timber, reuse and bio-based materials. The 100 m² timber house is shared by two families and was developed with the ambition of creating a healthy holiday home with the lowest possible climate and resource footprint. Designed by the owners themselves, the house was built in collaboration with Winther, a sixth-generation carpentry company. The design is based on five key principles: 1. a healthy home using low-emission materials and minimal foundations, 2. a resource-efficient home using bio-based materials, 3. direct reuse and industrial upcycling, 4. efficient use of the 100 m² footprint, 5. high-quality craftsmanship with materials that are easy to maintain, and a house designed to fit naturally into its surroundings. Above ground, the house exclusively uses bio-based, industrially upcycled and reused materials. a:gain contributed Bronsø for the facade and terrace as well as Viddø windowsolutions. Other solutions include reused beech parquet flooring from Gellerupparken and a reused toilet supplied by GreenDozer, alongside bio-based construction solutions from Hunton and Økonatur. The result is a holiday home where material choices, craftsmanship and reuse have been considered as an integrated part of the design from the very beginning.

Østerbrogade 125 – a transformation with respect for the existing architecture. The functionalist office building from 1963 has undergone an extensive renovation, with the ambition of creating modern office spaces and improving the indoor climate while preserving the building’s original architectural qualities. The facade has been reinterpreted with natural stone inspired by the building’s original expression, while the interiors combine existing elements such as exposed concrete walls and visible installations with new solutions. Circular economy and reuse have also been incorporated into the interior design. In close collaboration with Jeudan, a:gain contributed to the design, technical requirements and process-related solutions for the commercial spaces. As part of the project, a:gain supplied 456 m² of Tystø partition walls made from discarded wood and reclaimed demolition glass, contributing to the flexible interior design and the project’s sustainability ambitions.

Valhøj School – new spaces for learning and movement. Valhøj School in Rødovre has been extended with two new buildings in response to a growing number of students and an ambition to further develop the school’s existing campus. The new additions are designed with respect for the existing school, creating new connections between learning environments, outdoor spaces and the school’s strong sports profile. Flexible learning environments and multifunctional spaces provide room for teaching, concentration, play and movement, supporting new ways of using the school. In dialogue with Matter Architects, a:gain presented the possibilities of using Bronsø Thermowood cladding, discussing different design options, profiles and the expression of the timber. a:gain subsequently supplied Bronsø for the project, while the installation solution was reviewed with contractor Lund Tømrer & Bygningssnedkeri.

Ikano Bolig – circular materials in its own office interior. Ikano Bolig has been developing homes in Denmark since 2017, with a focus on reducing the environmental and climate impact of the real estate business. After being introduced to Tystø at Building Green in Copenhagen, the company's sustainability department chose to bring the product and circular approach into the design of its own office in Glostrup. a:gain supplied Tystø partition walls, made from discarded timber and reused glass recovered from demolition. The partitions create transparent and flexible spaces within the open office environment while demonstrating how existing materials can be given a new life in contemporary interiors. Tystø was developed through a cross-industry collaboration between a:gain, DEKO and several demolition companies, with the aim of making industrial upcycling available at scale. The solution therefore serves both as a functional element in Ikano Bolig’s office and as a tangible examplenew building products made from secondary resources put into practice.

4to1 planet The 4to1 Planet initiative aims to challenge and inspire material manufacturers, designers, contractors and developers to create housing with significantly lower emissions of CO₂ and other greenhouse gases. The target is to reduce CO₂ emissions from new residential construction to 2.5 kg CO₂e/m²/year. The association Boligbyggeri fra 4 til 1 planet is supported by the philanthropic association Realdania and the non-profit VILLUM Foundation, with a combined grant of DKK 60 million.

Nordic Swan Label The Nordic region’s official environmental certification for buildings. The certification is awarded to projects that meet strict requirements for environmental impact, climate, materials, chemicals, energy consumption, and indoor climate throughout the building’s entire life cycle. Its purpose is to promote more sustainable construction with a focus on both environmental performance and human health.

We are very pleased to use upcycled products from a:gain. They have a concept that we aim to incorporate into most of our projects whenever possible. At Bakkekvarteret, we used Bronsø as façade cladding, which is an excellent alternative to virgin materials and is delivered with end-matched boards, meaning we have virtually no waste. It is just as easy to install as other cladding solutions, the price is fair, and this makes it an easy choice to use something more climate-friendly. We also build terraces, sheds, and windbreaks using a:gain’s products, so they have gradually become an integrated part of our standard materials.

Bakkekvarteret in Vinge is a development project in which Ikano Bolig is exploring how future housing can be constructed with a significantly lower carbon footprint than conventional residential developments. As part of the Boligbyggeri fra 4 til 1 Planet initiative, supported by Realdania and Villum Fonden, the project serves as an important learning case for the future of low-carbon housing. Through conscious choices of construction methods, materials, and building principles, the project team is working towards reducing the building's carbon footprint to below 2.5 kg CO₂e/m²/year.

As part of the project, a:gain supplied Bronsø for facades, terraces, and fencing. Bronsø has contributed to the project's climate ambitions through conscious material choices while helping shape the building's natural architectural expression. The solution reflects a future-oriented aesthetic based on the increased use of resource-efficient and biobased materials.

Ejby Recycling Centre - designed around what already exists. Ejby Recycling Centre in Middelfart Municipality has been developed as an example of how resource-conscious material choices can be integrated into new construction. Early in the process, a deliberate strategy was established to let the available materials help determine the design, rather than the other way around. As a result, roof tiles, concrete elements, timber, bricks, windows and tiles from previous buildings have been integrated throughout the new facilities. At the centre of the site is a circular building with a swap shop and activities designed to inspire visitors to make better use of the resources that already exist.
