Nærø

Nærø is an acoustic batt made out of post-consumer textile waste, from various industries. We use our Nærø batts in the majority of our acoustic paneling products but you can also purchase it on its own as a batt. It comes in a range of different colours and sizes.

Nærø textile felt is produced from worn-out workwear, which can no longer be used for clothing or other secondary clothing production. Our production partner NewRetex has developed a method for sorting, where we get clean and pure fractions of textiles, which ensures high quality for the end product. After sorting the fabric is shredded and this process transforms the material from woven form to short, manageable fibers. The final part of the production process is felting, which binds the material together into nonwoven acoustic batts.

1  Collection

Textile waste is collected around Denmark. It is then sorted and cleaned so we can control colour and quality

2 Shredding

The sorted, clean textiles are then shredded to fine fibres

3 Processing

The fibres are spun up and mixed with a binder. The mixture is heated and bound together uniformly, whilst it is pressed into the right thickness

4 Cutting

The stream of material is cut to a standard sized batt. We offer a variety of colours, which are always directly linked with the work wear used to make them

Explore our three Nærø batt colour options. They are shades of grey and blue, which are determined by the textile waste it is produced from. We can never ensure an exact repetition of a specific nuance, from batch to batch, since our input material will always vary slightly. However, this just means that your batch is unique to your project!

What is Nærø made of and how do you source it? How much of the material is waste based?

The batts are made of worn-out workwear textiles. The textiles are generally a 65% cotton and 35% polyester mix. Currently min. 60% of the material is waste based; however, we are working towards increasing this share.

Does Nærø contain any hazardous components?

No, the textiles for Nærø enter our manufacturing line clean. The textile is bound by a PET binder, which does not evaporate.

How and where is Nærø manufactured?

First, the worn-out textiles are cleaned and sorted, then it is shredded and mixed with a PET binder. Subsequently, the material goes through a heated press, which enables the thermoplastic to bind the material together. The continuous product flowing out from the press is then cut to size, packaged, and shipped.

Is the material recyclable?

Yes, the textile can be sorted as ‘Textile’ at a recycling station. We also offer take-back services for reuse or remanufacturing into as-new products.

Can I order a customised size or colour of Nærø?

For larger projects, such as a whole office building or an entire floor, we can have new colours developed, however, for smaller projects the colours showcased on this page are our standard. We generally do not offer Nærø outside our standards. However, if your project is of sufficient scale, e.g., the entire floor of an office building, we are happy to discuss possibilities. Please reach out to us with your specific request.

How can I adjust or alter Nærø post-purchase?

Nærø can be cut using a very fine-toothed blade or alternatively a toothless blade. For more information check out the installation guide or send an inquiry.

How should I handle Nærø to not damage it?

Whether you are handling the softer 50mm batt or the harder 15mm batt, we recommend handling it with care. The surface and sides should be covered and protected, at least somewhat, until installation. Especially the surface that will be visible after the final installation should be protected, to ensure a good result. Be mindful to not leave it in heavily dusty environments prior to installation if it is not securely wrapped.
