"I am made from discarded wood & textile waste"

6.1 kg waste saved*

16.2 kg CO2eq footprint*

Ebbø panelling is a sound-absorbing natural product built from discarded wood and offcuts from wood production. Our collaborator Norto has developed a special type of stick-glued wooden board, which consists of small remnants from regular production of boards, wooden profiles, and more. With this product, we have created a product that works by both reducing reflection, increasing diffraction, and (with the backing of sound-absorbent) absorption while giving a natural warmth and feeling. The product can be delivered fire-treated, painted, and waxed. The product is produced in Denmark and is made entirely of natural materials.

1 Collection

Bits of offcuts are collected over time as VTI manufactures various wood products

2 Finger joining

The offcuts are joined lengthwise by finger joining them. This reconstitutes the offcuts to long pieces for further processing

3 Edge joining

The longer finger jointed pieces are now joined up to boards be edge gluing them together

4 CNC milling

The boards are now CNC milled to finished Ebbø panels. The panels are optimised for acoustic performance and posses a calm aesthetic

What is Ebbø made of and how do you source it? How much of the material is waste based?
Ebbø is made from discarded Pine from Danish wood production and textile batts made from mixed-fibers textile waste. The wood is certified and from sustainably managed forests in Northern Europe. It is produced and processed by our collaborator Norto in Denmark. The textile batt is at least 60% waste based. The acoustic Nærø batt that comes with it is made of worn-out textiles from a major workwear and textile maintenance company.

Does Ebbø contain any hazardous materials?

No, the off-cut material for Ebbø is untreated and the wood board is glued together with a non-hazardous wood glue. It is then surface treated with a waterborne wax as a finish. We can provide an SDS (Safety Data Sheets) on the wax.
Where and how is Ebbø manufactured?
All manufacture including surface treatment takes place in Denmark. Our collaborator Norto stick-glue 100% pine off-cuts from regular wood production to create a wooden panel that is then milled to create the final product. The worn-out textiles are cleaned, sorted, shredded and mixed with a PET binder. Subsequently, it’s press-heated, which enables the thermoplastic to bind the material together. The product is manufactured in Denmark and made from waste also collected in Denmark.
Are the materials recyclable?
Yes, the wood can be sorted as ‘Wood’ and the textile batt as Textile’ at a recycling station. We also offer take-back services for reuse or remanufacturing into as-new products.
Can I order a different size or colour of Ebbø than your standard variants?
For larger projects, such as a whole office building or an entire floor, we can have new colours developed, however, for smaller projects the colours on this page are our currently available options. If you wish, you can repaint the product yourself. We can also adjust the size; please reach out to us with your specific request to receive a cost estimate.
How can I adjust or alter Ebbø post-purchase?
The wood can be treated like any other wooden product. It can be repainted, stripped, sawn, planed, etc. The panels can be adjusted horizontally by cutting through the stick-glued board with a circle saw length-wise. If the panelling is to be installed partially on a wall, we can deliver end pieces to the side of the panel to make for a complete look. For complete information on these procedures – please see our installation sheet.
How should I handle the Ebbø panel to not damage it?
See the mounting sheet for mounting instructions. To be certain that the surface treatment is not damaged unnecessarily, do not take the panel out of its original packaging prior to the moment you need to install it. If you do need to check the quality of the panels or have concerns over the finish, be sure to handle with care if you need to re-package the material. The wax finish is very sturdy, but ultimately not completely resistant to scratching.
